Colorblind Accessibility

Unlocking data insights for colorblind analysts with inclusive design.

THE CHALLENGE

Colorblind analysts couldn’t read key graphs, slowing work and lowering morale in a data-heavy department. I set out to craft a palette that lets everyone excel at their jobs without breaking brand style.

MY APPROACH

RESEARCH

Simulated color blindness types and conducted user interviews with affected colleagues.

DESIGN

Created an initial palette that could be tested with users. Testing revealed the most important aspect was contrast. By adjusting variance and not hue, the colors could be higher contrast but stay close to company branding. New palette aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA.

SOLUTION

Rolled out a new palette with bold, accessible variance, plus powerpoint templates for users to jump right into. The template didn't stay in just the analytics department for long, soon I had colorblind colleagues from all departments reaching out asking if they could be sent it too. Now, the new palette template is part of the standard presentation templates that everyone has access to.

THE IMPACT

BUSINESS

Boosted productivity—less rework, faster insights.

USERS

Colorblind colleagues worked independently, confidence rising per positive feedback.

KEY WINS

Saw firsthand how thoughtful, inclusive design transforms teams, even for something as seemingly small as color choice. The simulations and user input were very valuable for understanding real experiences.
